How To Test Laptop Screen

When buying a laptop for business work, it is always important to test the system’s hardware so you won’t experience the inconvenience of returning the system for replacement or repairs later on when work gets hectic. The salesperson may simply switch on the laptop and show that it properly boots into Windows as proof that it works so you can finally take it back to the office. However, you need to perform additional steps to test other parts of the laptop such as the screen. Testing the laptop screen early is recommended so you can immediately ask for a replacement if you discover a problem.

1

Plug your laptop’s AC adapter into your laptop and turn it on. Right-click the battery icon on the taskbar near the clock and click “Adjust screen brightness.”

2

Move the “Screen brightness” slider to the far left to dim the display. Slowly move the slider towards the right until you reach the other end while observing your screen to see if all brightness levels work properly. Unplug your laptop’s AC adapter and repeat this step.

3

Push your laptop’s screen gently to the furthest position and then slowly pull the laptop’s screen back while checking if the screen flickers. Do not close the laptop lid completely as it may cause the laptop to sleep or shut down.

4

Plug your laptop’s AC adapter back in and connect a computer monitor to your laptop’s VGA port using a VGA cable. Right-click your desktop and click “Screen Resolution.” Set the “Multiple displays” option to “Duplicate these displays.” Compare both screens so you can check if the laptop display shows missing details or pixels that may otherwise be present on the monitor. It is normal if the colors on the laptop display are slightly more or less vivid than the monitor.
